this is the most sturdy and forgiving stand that is possible without using a ton of wood. to make this you will need the following things
- 3" wood screws
- power drill
- 2 by 4's(actually they are 1.5" bu 3.5")
- wood paneling, either plywood or the nicer oak sheets of wood.
- stain or paint depending on what you want.
- levil
- saw that cuts straight lines.
- small wire nails about 1"
- from the picture, this stand is basically self explanitory. for each joint, use 2 screws.
- for the verticle supports, use one every 12-16".if the tank is
- deeper than 20", i would suggest using a design similar to image #2
- paint or stain paneling
- nail on the paneling with small wire nails
- if the stands top is not completly levil. you can do one of two things. for a stand with a flat top, but not levil, add shims under one or two corners to make levil. for a stand in which the surface is overall levil, but not all what should be touching the tank is going to touch it. to solve this problem, put a sheet of .75-1" styraphome on top, and put a .5" thick plywood board over that. this will cushion out any unevenness.
